- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 oz melted dark chocolate (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted chocolate until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until combined without overmixing.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and melted chocolate until desired consistency is reached.
- Once cooled, layer cakes with frosting in between and cover the top and sides generously with frosting.
