  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch square pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nuts (if using), and melted butter for the streusel topping.
  6. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the streusel topping over it before adding the remaining batter and topping it with the rest of the streusel mixture.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
