  • 1 lb flank steak
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced
  • 4 sturdy sandwich buns

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, and brown sugar until smooth.
  2. Place the flank steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal and marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Toss onion slices in olive oil and grill for about 8-10 minutes until charred.
  4. Remove the flank steak from marinade (discard marinade) and grill for 5-7 minutes on each side until medium-rare or desired doneness.
  5. Allow the steak to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  6. Toast buns on the grill if desired, then assemble sandwiches by layering sliced flank steak and grilled onions. Add toppings as desired.
