  • ½ cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt (to taste)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir until combined to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into ropes and twist into pretzel shapes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Boil water mixed with baking soda in a large pot; briefly dip each pretzel into boiling water before placing them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter before serving.
