Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Slice potatoes into uniform, thin rounds (about 1/8 inch thick).
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish; pour half of the cream mixture over them and sprinkle with half of the Gruyère cheese. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
