Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (480g)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast (7g)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (25g)
  • 1 tsp salt (6g)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (56g)
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually mix in warm milk until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Incorporate softened butter into the dough by kneading until fully absorbed.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
  5. Deflate the risen dough gently and divide it into three equal portions. Roll each into a rectangle and shape into tight logs.
  6. Place logs in a greased loaf pan; cover and let rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the loaves with egg wash before baking for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Allow cooling slightly before slicing.
